PARTNERSHIP ACCOUNT MANAGER role at Material Focus, the organisation behind the new UK-wide Recycle Your Electricals campaign
Location is ?exible, working between our of?ces in London Victoria, home and attending conferences and meetings with partners.
Hello. We're a mission driven not-for-pro?t start-up launched in April 2020 and are now looking for a Partnership Account Manager to help us work with local authorities to get the UK reusing and recycling their old and unwanted electricals. Unwanted electricals are the fastest growing waste stream in the world - and the UK. Reusing these useful items and recycling the precious resources they are made from will improve lives, save money and protect the environment.
We are motivated by knowing that we are already having an impact and that we can do so much more. We have spent the past 2 years testing messages, moments, channels and different ways of working with partners to understand how best to help people act. The next phase of our campaign is to build relationships with as many partners as possible to get our message to the public at the right moment, in a way that's helpful to them. We have already worked with almost 100 local authorities, electrical retailers, producers and charities, and we are ready to expand rapidly to work with many more. We want to work with organisations and people who share our values and ambition, to create a world where none of these precious materials get wasted - local authorities, retailers, producers, charities, repair cafes, schools. environmental organisations...
You'll be part of a small and growing team who are all committed to our challenge to get the nation reusing and recycling all of their unwanted electricals. You can come in and have an immediate impact.
We are looking for a self-starter who is focussed on delivery, and is passionate about working on environmental and social good campaigns. You'll thrive on the fact that we're just starting up, with the opportunity to quickly show results.
Background
The current economic system is based on unlimited growth on a ?nite planet. Discarded old electricals are part of the problem. As technology evolves at such a fast pace, older electrical and electronic items are often made redundant. Most of us don't know what to do with our old electricals and end up either binning or hoarding them. The reality is that everything with a plug, a cable or a battery can be recycled and turned into anything from children's playgrounds to life saving equipment.
About Material Focus
We are a busy mission-driven start-up, with lots of ideas and never enough time to execute them all. We are a core team of 8, working with a network of trusted freelancers and agencies to get the job done.
Our campaign
We launched the Recycle Your Electricals campaign to motivate and make it easy for people to reuse and repair their unwanted electricals. This is a growing issue that many people just don't think about - but when they do they want to know practical information about what to do with it. Some throw away small electricals without even thinking about it, or perhaps we consider it but we're too busy, and what would we do with it anyway? We need to stop people in their tracks, and give them a reason to think about it, talk about it, and do the right thing. Our website has been designed as an inspiring knowledge hub with all the tools, links and resources people need to donate, repair and recycle their unwanted electricals.
Our success rests on not only driving people to our website to ?nd out their nearest reuse and recycling points, but also getting them to actually donate, sell, repair and recycle their electricals.
About 15% of the UK public have kerbside collection services for their unwanted electricals. For everyone else the options are generally their local recycling or reuse centre, electrical retailers, charities or local community drop off points. Local authorities play a big role in making it easier for people to recycle - both as the provider of recycling services, but also as the key messenger the public expect to receive recycling information from.
