Role overview

Breedon are currently seeking a Payroll Team Leader to join our team based in Lockington, near Derby. Reporting to the Assistant Group Payroll Manager, the role will oversee, check, and support the work of the team of Payroll Advisors, ensuring that the day to day running of Payroll across the Group is delivered. This will be a 12 month fixed-term contract to cover Maternity leave.

The successful candidate will be thorough and professional and have excellent accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and track payroll processing to deadlines on a day-to-day basis, ensuring all payrolls are completed accurately and on time
  • Import, validate and check coding notice changes
  • Complete control checks for each payroll run and prepare reconciliations
  • Process the Monthly Payroll run for Group Employees
  • Issue Payroll Costing information to the Finance teams
  • Prepare and submit Pension contributions ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Check and administer payments to third parties
  • Complete ONS returns
  • Deliver the standards required to comply with internal controls
  • Support the Annual External Audit
  • Resolution of escalated queries
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained
  • Recommend process improvements
  • Assist with ad hoc Payroll projects as required
  • Any other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes required:

  • Experience processing large volume payroll
  • A team player
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong legislative knowledge, and ability to display a comprehensive understanding of Tax, National Insurance, Statutory Payments, Auto Enrolment & Real Time Information
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Time management and the ability to prioritise
  • Strong analytical and IT skills, especially Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to deal with people at all levels
  • Passion for excellence and continuous improvement
  • Experience using Midland HR's iTrent software (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of processing ROI payroll (desirable)
