Laing O'Rourke has a hybrid working model which is centred around managing energy and promoting sustainable performance in the role.

This role will require travel and overnight stays, enabling you to immerse yourself in our people and the great work they do across our projects. This will be on an ad-hoc basis as and when the project presence is required.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a People Manager to provide a key focus on building organisational capability and employee performance through attraction, development and retention, as well supporting with all aspects of people practise in their area.

We are looking for a strong performer, who is able to demonstrate exceptional people skills, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders. The ideal candidate will demonstrate personal presence while earning trust and respect. We are looking for a leader for the entire People function, deputising when required on behalf of the People Leader.

What will the role look like?

  • Interface with People Lead to support managers in ensuring a positive employee experience for all.
  • The role will have responsibility for a portfolio of projects with regular travel expected across the UK
  • Drive a high-performance culture, with a focus on attracting, developing and retaining talent.
  • Supporting People Lead, Operational Leader and Head of People Operations in the delivery of people strategy and specialist initiatives including transformation, D&I, Reward and L&D
  • Support the People Lead with the creation development and monitoring of the L&D strategy
  • Working to improve and develop the talent pipeline through high-level project resourcing, mobilisation and de-mobilisation
  • Working closely with the Resourcing Team and stakeholders to manage recruitment requirements for the relevant business area
  • Helping to drive an increase in colleague engagement across the business area

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • The ideal candidate will have a solid generalist background with a track record of delivery ideally within a fast-growing environment.
  • You will be successful in acting as a partner to colleagues and managers at all levels of the business on people related issues.
  • Comprehensive understanding of People systems, policies and processes, and their impact on the business
  • The ability to monitor key business metrics to identify areas of opportunity/concern, supporting the creation and execution of action plans to address.
  • Awareness and desire to understand HR appropriate digital skills and how the team can integrated these skills.

What are the qualifications needed?

  • Postgraduate diploma level achieved or working towards 7 CIPD is desirable
  • Achieved or working towards Chartered CIPD Member is desirable
