Main purpose of Job
To manage all plant being hired and off-hired within a given depot/area to ensure efficiency, quality and cost control. The role is to ensure that all plant including vehicles are allocated to the correct team on the correct contract as accurate costs must be produced for the Commercial Department on a weekly basis and should include for all hired plant both operated and non-operated.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Ensure that the plant in the yard is in good working order and ensure that necessary repairs are carried out.
- Control the issue of plant in the yard and plant out with the gangs.
- To arrange the hire of all internal and external plant as required by the contract.
- Act as a point of contact for Clancy Plant Hire.
- To ensure that Clancy Plant Hire is informed of all equipment being hired including hire rates, delivery and collection charges.
- Plant should be identified as to being used by named gangs.
- Hired plant should be input into the computer system accurately and succinctly.
- Delivery tickets and collection notes to be checked and filed.
- Plant should be off hired with supplier on the date requested.
- Off hire sheets to be completed weekly and faxed to Clancy Plant Hire and filed.
- Transfer sheets to be completed when plant is transferred to other contracts.
- Ensure that we are receiving the correct level of service from suppliers and challenge them where there are issues.
- Notify Clancy Plant Hire if a supplier is not performing to the required standard.
- Clancy Plant Hire sheets to be checked weekly to ensure that all rates are correct and that the plant on these sheets actually matches the plant on site.
- Any items of plant showing on the Clancy Plant Hire sheet that cannot be found or proved to be off hired must be discussed with the relevant site manager and ultimately written off to avoid further costs from continuing hire charges.
- All discrepancies are to be investigated and addressed immediately.
- Any plant queries to be dealt with immediately and passed to the relevant site manager for signature.
- Costs of all repairs, losses and damages must also be included and recorded.
- Original test certificates must be filed alphabetically and be in date at all times.
- Regular plant audits to be carried out.
- Report and completion of the necessary paperwork for thefts/loss or damage of plant items.

Other Duties
- Set a good example to all employees.
- Ensure compliance with all Clancy Group / Anglian Water controlled documents, including Clancy / Anglian Water procedures.
- Be pro-active in developing new systems to meet the changing needs of the department.
Skills and Knowledge
- Experience managing plant
- Commercial knowledge
- Good communication skills
- Utilities sector experience desirable
