Working on an 8-year framework with UKPN who own and maintain the electricity cables in South East England and London we are part of an alliance comprising Wood Group, Morrison Utility Services and Clancy Docwra.

The post is in support of the UK Power Networks ED1SON Alliance. The Alliance is charged with delivering a £1bn programme in the 2016-2023 ED1 regulatory period. Kier has been appointed to undertake cable and substation infrastructure projects across the Southern and Eastern Power Networks (SPN & EPN). Project values typically range from £500k to £10m. The post will be based primarily in one of the UKPN offices, with regular visits to sites during the survey, design and site investigation stage

This role, within the Alliance and Programme Delivery team, is to project manage a portfolio of projects from mandate, via the 'Plan, Design and Deliver process' (PDD) through to full handover to the construction delivery Project Manager at Gate B or Gate C dependant on type of project classification. You are responsible for agreeing and implementing the Project Design and Delivery strategy, aligned with UKPN Governance process of Gate A to Gate B or Gate C stages.

Focus, and use of lessons learned, to remove and/or reduce safety risks to a tolerable level, ensure design quality and assurance is undertaken and reviewed, budgets as mandated in Compatible Unit designs (Cu's) and/or changes agreed with all stakeholders as the project scope becomes clear through either optioning and/or early design phase.

All solutions to a project delivery must offer the optimum cost benefit for UKPN and outperforming regulatory allowances. Following 'Kick-Off' meetings Project Milestones will be agreed and set with all project team stakeholders after which you shall track and forecast on a weekly/monthly basis for his portfolio via and use of Primavera P6 and P6 Planners.

The role will require the you to manage all interfaces between Capital Programme functional departments and key Asset Management and/or Major Connections staff and teams. Ensure resources are in place and aligned in understanding to meet milestones to deliver the associated investment plan and any regulatory outputs or customer energisation dates, monitor project progress between Gate A, Gate B and Gate C, provide regular reports and any other functions as required by the Sub Programme Manager.

Development will be required to develop and draft documents such as a Project Execution Plan (PEP), aligned to the scale and complexity of a project, as well as a Project Risk register. Obtaining input to these documents from the core project team will be essential to achieve maximum benefit, success and understanding. There will be a strong emphasis on stakeholder management with Design, Commercial, Alliance Delivery Members, UKPN Direct Labour Organisation teams (DLO), Consents, Sub Programme teams within Spoke office locations, Infrastructure Planning (Asset Management), Major Connections, Procurement and Supply Chain

What we need from you?

Experience of developing and managing design and construction and/or engineering projects. A background in distribution and transmission substation and cable/overhead line systems would be an advantage. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, excellent interpersonal skills and strong commercial awareness. Ideally you will have an Degree in Electrical Engineering , or Civil Engineering or equivalent all with a Project Management bias.

Excellent understanding of construction management best practice. Knowledge of the NEC contract would be required and an advantage. A safety qualification such as IOSH Managing Safely will be advantageous as will experience of working with the CDM regulations and ISO9001 quality processes. Knowledge and experience of Primavera P6, the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Excel, Word, Project and Outlook) and project management techniques
