Kier Professional Services (KPS) are an exclusive in-house resource, providing readily available expert advice to support understanding and resolution of technical project issues in temporary and permanent works. KPS are able to quickly mobilise resources to support project delivery and consistently deliver a dependable design service for buildability and safety.

We have a large team of experienced professionally qualified engineers, with a wide variety of technical knowledge that spans a variety of sectors.

We are leaders within BIM, providing intelligent BIM models for a number of Kier businesses, and use a variety of innovative software solutions to assist with feasibility, optioneering and buildability reviews of a project.

We are able to verify the accuracy of 3rd party design inputs and ensure that these comply with the brief to meet both Client and Kier requirements for safety, buildability and cost effectiveness. We also offer rectification analysis, review, and advice/redesign following construction related defects.



Key Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of a broad range of complex Civil & Structural / MEICA and related services in both Temporary and Permanent Works, providing solutions which are safe and buildable (in both their temporary and permanent states), above all other considerations. Services to include:

  • Agree technical requirements of the client remit, ensuring it is fully understood, questioning and challenging where necessary
  • Lead the development of fee proposals for review in accordance with Delegated Authority policy
  • Organise and lead the day-to-day workload of engineers and technical staff within the design team, ensuring technical compliance of the design to the remit
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements and Company policies / procedures, including CDM Regulations, the Kier SHE Management System (SHEMS) and design Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Oversee and contribute to the production of design deliverables, including calculations, drawings, reports and Design Risk Assessments
  • Identify and assess the technical opportunities for value engineering, implementing them with suitable approval
  • Develop and build a positive relationship with the client and/or design/site teams that supports fulfilment of contractual obligations and ensures KPS and Kier meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Be the lead representative at project and progress meetings with clients, as required, from remit development through to lessons learned
  • Manage the financial and commercial aspects of the project with the support of Engineering Manager and Commercial Manager, monitoring progress against, and ensuring the project is delivered to, agreed programme and budget
  • Maintain project documentation and records, providing regular project reports to Engineering Manager and client as required, including financial and programme progress and forecasts and early warnings on problem issues and potential significant overspends as soon as they are apparent
  • Review monthly invoices prior to issue
  • Seek regular formal and informal feedback from clients during and at the conclusion of the project, noting lessons learned and ensuring continuous improvement within KPS
  • Provide leadership to direct and indirect reports, supporting Engineering Manager and Head of Discipline
  • Manage team workload, maximising individual utilisation and project efficiency
  • Ensure the timely completion and submission of timesheets for your review and approval for your direct reports
What do we need from you?

  • Chartered member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. CEng MICE)
  • Seven years relevant postgraduate experience
  • Full driving licence
  • Valid CSCS card
