Following securing the 2nd stage of a major project (£100m+), Kier Strategic Projects seek an experienced project commercial professional to oversee the commercial aspects of the 2nd stage process, including client engagement; and the main contract on award.

Kier have been awarded a PCSA contract to develop the design for HMP Glasgow, which is a replacement for the existing adult male establishment at HMP Barlinnie. The project will deliver a new, modern prison that provides secure custody, safe and ordered prison regimes, high standards of decency and care, alongside opportunities for prisoners to develop in a way that helps them reintegrate on return to society on their release.?

The new prison is to accommodate spaces for 1,200 persons along with associated support facilities and regimes with an emphasis on rehabilitation through a focus on health and wellbeing. In developing the design we will explore options for delivering net zero carbon and embrace smart building technologies and automated processes to support the operation of the new facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Operations Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for for managing the project to ensure all contractual requirements are met. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of commercial & procurement function, and providing guidance to the operational management team on the project. Appropriately allocating resources to achieve the outcome required is a key responsibility, alongside managing and supporting the commercial & procurement team in administering subcontracts.

The ideal candidate will ensure all reporting requirements are met by the commercial team and communicated as required, while engaging in all reporting and ensuring detailed, high quality records are kept. The Project Commercial Director will produce monthly commercial reports and ensure they are accurate. In this role you will look at opportunities to add value to the local community and develop strategies to understand client needs whilst developing a strong relationship with them.

In this role, you will support the upskilling and development of others in the commercial and procurement team, The ideal Project Commercial Director will support all internal governance stages, attend client engagement sessions to identify client drivers and promote the wellbeing of the team, ensuring that an inclusive workplace where diversity of thought, background and experience is encouraged and achieved. What do we need from you?

  • Previous experience within a senior commercial role.

  • Excellent track record in commercial leadership - managing 2nd stage and construction phases

  • Experience of working as part of a team and on your own initiative to deliver objective of the department and company as a whole

  • Proven experience of building strong relationships with clients
