Role Overview
This is a field-based safety-critical role focused on inspecting the condition of railway structures across the Central region. You'll carry out scheduled and specialist examinations and report findings using Network Rail's Alarm system. You must be Sentinel certified and fully competent in STE4 inspections from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect railway structures to assess their condition, following Alarm system schedules and deadlines
Use rope access for inspections if qualified
Complete and submit condition reports via the Alarm electronic system or other approved methods
Support special inspections and monitoring schemes on sensitive or complex structures
Perform reconnaissance visits as needed
Assist Examining Engineers with specialist and tunnel examinations
Take part in out-of-hours on-call duties, including emergency bridge strike response
Provide safety-critical support at inspection sites
Observe and assess structures, making technical decisions within your competency
Recommend actions or next steps for review by the Examining Engineers team
Make immediate decisions on-site during safety incidents or structure failures
Directly contribute to performance by submitting timely and accurate inspection reports
Essential Requirements
GCSE English Language pass
City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in a construction trade (or relevant experience considered)
Fully competent in STE4 / SCMI
Sentinel PTS and Working from Heights certified
Bridge Strike Examiner qualification
Competent to work alone
IT skills - word processing and drawing software
Full UK driving licence
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
