The Quantity Surveyor is the linchpin of the commercial team, bridging the requirements of senior management with the delivery outputs of the team. This role requires a detailed understanding of the contract cost and value with an analytical approach to identifying areas of improvement and implementing change where necessary. The QS must be capable and confident with liaising with other business stakeholders and the client.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will ensure the WIP remains within threshold set by the business by ensuring payment applications are processed by the team and paid by the client within contractual terms, engage with the supply chain to negotiate rates, on board suppliers and generate the associated contract documents and utilise the schedule of rates to maximise value. Identify variations and ensure recovery of cost and value. You will also contribute to and influence the monthly CVRs by ensuring all cost and value data is collated and entered into the correct WMS, provide a cash flow forecast and identifying points where cash flow may be negatively impacted, resolving the issues and where necessary escalating to the Senior Quantity Surveyor.

You will also complete weekly reporting on key cost areas such as but not limited to overheads, direct labour cost, plant, fleet and material spend, fuel cost and subcontractor cost. Being capable identifying potential cost savings and implementing where possible actions to reduce, be responsible for the overall management of subcontractor accounts and recording accruals for inclusion in monthly CVRs and be competent resolving application rejections from the client and putting in place controls to prevent. You will ensure subcontractor invoices are processed correctly, validating and approving for subsequent payment. You will also be responsible for the management of regional commercial team including Assistant Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Administrators and responsible for the resulting contract commercial performance. It is also critical that you execute the delivery of margin against business requirements and forecast. The accurate reporting and management of a series of fundamental commercial objectives including but not limited to cash receipts, profit and loss, cost and value

What do we need from you?

To be successful in this role you will be capable of independent working, using initiative and aware all areas of cost and value without prompt or instruction, be IT proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and be comfortable and confident generating and issuing accurate reports with an understanding of the content. You will be confident leading discussions with supply chain, business stakeholders and the client to overcome problems. Competent in dispute resolution referencing contractual terms when necessary. Be professional, deliberate and structured approach to work with care and pride taken in the delivery of work to the business and client. Ensuring and setting a high standard is maintained throughout the team.

You will have excellent communication, written and presentation skills, be able to adapt to working and coaching on bespoke IT systems. Making the most of system capabilities., be capable of guiding and directing the team towards its overall objectives and hold a UK Driver's license. Whilst not essential it would also be advantageous if you have previous experience in the utilities sector of construction, held a degree in Quantity Surveying with a Second-Class or above and have experience of NEC4 form of contract.
