Safety, Health and Environment Advisor

Key Responsibilities:
- Drive to deliver continual SHE improvements across the Business Unit
- Ensure Kier's SHE procedures are implemented to allow all relevant legislation to be complied with
- Provide support and advice to any part of Kier business unit operations on SHE issues and to ensure that the Kier SHE policies and any local guidance are fully aligned in order that no conflict or confusion exists
- Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are correctly reported and support is provided to investigations in accordance with Kier SHE policies and procedures
- Ensure all SHE lessons learnt and other High Value Learning Events (HVLEs) are communicated
- Ensure that all SHE reporting requirements are provided accurately and in a timely manner
- Ensure environmental procedures, reporting and required environmental statements are produced and maintained
- Conduct site/project/contract APR visits and ensure that appropriate action plans have been put in place by the accountable operations manager
- Conduct regular reviews on APR corrective action status
- Support Kier vision and values and follow Kier strategy and critical operating tasks (COTS)
- Work closely with and support the operational teams in carrying out their roles and responsibilities for SHE and implementing the Kier Safety, Health and Environmental Management System (KSHEMS)
- Attend pre-start meetings and advise on CDM, welfare, work at height and other areas of SHE
- Advise and assist teams in drawing up risk assessments, safe systems of work and evaluating method statements
- Carry out and record SHE audits and inspections
- Assist the line management in the compiling of accident reports for accidents and providing recommendations to prevent a reoccurrence
- Participate in the work of SHE committees and joint consultations affecting the workforce
- Update senior managers and directors on SHE issues regularly, and immediately following any serious incidents or enforcing authority involvement
- Assist management in identifying local SHE training and if necessary liaising with the Learning and Development team to progress training
- Assist in developing toolbox talks and briefings on key issues
- Promote SHE training programmes and assist in any improvements
- Deliver SHE training courses and briefings where the need arises
- Tasks will be carried out in a manner wholly consistent with Kier's SHE policies without compromise
- NEBOSH diploma or equivalent (or demonstrable IPD/CPD equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 Standards
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Experience of working in the Utilities Industry
- Experience of change management
- Experience or would enjoy the challenge of working in a fully integrated collaborative partner environment
- Experience working understanding of SHE legislation
- Good oral and written communicator
- Ability to work as part of a team and to positively influence others
- Ability to work on own initiative, deliver key objectives while working under pressure and coping with stressful situations
