Protocol is working with one of the best Further Education colleges in the country for 16-18 year-old level 3 student achievement and a leading apprenticeship provider. Based in Cambridgeshire, our client has some of the best facilities in the country and students enjoy learning here, thanks to inspirational teachers, excellent courses and industry-standard workshops, studios and salons. With around 700 staff, 3,500 full-time students and 4,500 apprentices, the campus atmosphere is always busy and vibrant. You will find a modern teaching environment with lots of energy and interaction. Graded as 'Good' with some outstanding features by Ofsted, a fantastic 95% of students go on to further education or employment.
Our client is currently have an exciting opportunity to join them on a permanent basis as a Science Technician starting immediately
Role responsibilities
*Organise and supervise the efficient running of the College's science laboratories; ensuring a safe and effective working environment for both staff and students.
Prepare and clear away, materials for the Biology/Physics labs, to meet the needs of both teaching staff and students in both practical and theory teaching sessions.
This could include working with staff to research and pilot new experiments, creating solutions and reagents, preparing microbiological cultures and media; small soldering and wiring tasks; running the glasswasher; checking all equipment works as expected.
Co-ordinate the monitoring of consumable stocks and the purchase of new stock/equipment for the Science area and also make purchases for non-science staff from the Science, Access and HE team
The person & qualifications
*Experience of working with young people and in a laboratory environment.
*A sound education to level 3, must include Maths and English
*Must be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the role
*Must be enthusiastic and inspiring to learners
*Must have an enhanced DBS on the update service or within 12 months (or be willing to apply for one)
