Laing O'Rourke has a requirement for a permanent Senior Engineer to join our team. Are you an engineering professional who wants to develop your career? Do you have a desire to improve your engineering competency? Then the role at Old Oak Common can support your development.
As part of the HS2 works our specialist division will be working on the main super station hub at Old Oak Common. The main construction of the 850m-long reinforced concrete station box, which will form the frame and the base for the HS2 station building, began on 27 October and will see Expanded excavate 20m below ground level removing 690,000 cubic metres of clay, before placing 32,000 tonnes of steel and pouring 190,000m3 of reinforced concrete. The form of excavation known as "top down" construction allows the ground floor slab to be constructed initially with a series of mole holes allowing access for the large excavators to remove the earth from within. The role has a variety of tasks and operates a self-delivery model rather than subcontractor reliance. Can you work with a number of influential people and specialist teams from the civil engineering and rail sector?
Can you support the project delivery to meet its needs by providing engineering expertise in a rail stations box / civils capacity?

- Pursuit of becoming a chartered engineer and membership fees
- Additional internal and external courses (TWC, AP, APM, Agile etc)
- Industry leading development of engineering competencies
- Major projects experience
- Development of management skills
Responsibilities include:
- Engineering Methods - Delivery of best solutions and working practices. Responsible for dimensional control teams
- Quality - Implementation of ITPs and comply with quality standards checking Section Engineer packs
- Permanent woks and materials / plant -Good understanding of relevant capabilities of materials, plants and systems.
- Construction methods, practice and innovation - Lead methods being used on site with the ability to measure and record, innovating where possible
- Temporary Works - Implement and manage temporary works requirements and supervise if or coordinate on site and with designers
- Design process - Working with Project Engineers to communicate to teams and manage deliverables
- HSE - Work with the teams and H&S professionals to ensure safe working practices
- Responsible for experience engineers to deliver large packages of complex work
- Information and change control along with value engineering where possible
The type of knowledge that will help you thrive in the role or add to your skill set include:
- Extensive reinforced concrete experience
- Self-delivery experience
- Understanding of offsite manufacturing
- Basic understanding of BIM
- Commercial awareness
- Chartered, working towards Chartership or a desire to pursue Chartership
Are you able to commute to West London? The position will be based on site at Old Oak Common (W3 Post Code) and working a Monday to Friday with occasional weekends. It is a great opportunity to enhance your site experience and establish strong working relationships with the project team.
