Introduction:

Kier Strategic Highways are looking to recruit an to Geotechnical Senior Engineer join the Highways team in the Design Services Business.

Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a small team of Engineers to deliver a portfolio of small to medium size projects.
  • Plan and undertake site inspections, field based asset condition data collection and analysis
  • Planning, specifying and undertaking ground investigations. Looking for technical excellence at all times.
  • Lead the development of technical solutions at feasibility, preliminary and detailed design stages.
  • Prepare and supervise others to develop technical design calculations, drawings, reports, tender documents, specifications, designer's risk assessments and other CDM documentation and other documents.
  • Competently use and train others on specialist design and drawing software.
  • Undertake inspection/supervision activities and manage others to do so.
  • Set delivery targets with other senior staff and report regularly on progress towards milestones.
  • Skills and experience required:

  • A degree or equivalent in either :
  • Civil Engineering with a geotechnical content or
  • Geology with an engineering content
  • A Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution.
  • Full driving licence, valid in the UK
  • IT Literate.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD would be desirable.
  • Some experience of working in a construction environment would be desirable
