We are seeking a skilled Planning and Project Controls Engineer with expertise in heavy civil engineering to join a leading Civil Engineering Contractor. You will play a vital role in supporting the planning, scheduling, and control of major infrastructure projects across the UK.

The Role

As a Planning and Project Controls Engineer, you will support project teams in developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules, cost controls, and risk management processes. You will work closely with Senior Planners, Project Managers, and commercial teams to ensure accurate reporting, effective forecasting, and timely decision-making to optimise project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Support planning and scheduling for major heavy civil engineering projects.

Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6, ensuring alignment with NEC contract requirements.

Assist with baseline programme creation (Clause 31) and regular programme updates (Clause 32).

Support early warning (Clause 60) and compensation event assessments (Clauses 61 & 62).

Monitor project performance, preparing accurate reporting and forecasts for stakeholders.

Assist in identifying project risks, delays, and opportunities, contributing to mitigation strategies.

Maintain project controls documentation, including schedules, progress reports, and dashboards.

Provide technical support to project teams in planning and project controls processes.

Contribute to mentoring and development of junior team members.

About You

Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience in planning, project controls, or scheduling on heavy civil engineering or major infrastructure projects.

Proficiency in Primavera P6 and familiarity with NEC contract planning functions.

Strong understanding of civil engineering construction methodologies and project phasing.

Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.

Attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
