Senior Project Planner

We at Laing O'Rourke have a requirement for Senior Project Planner to join one of our specialist projects with work winning, Pre-Contracts and Bids across the UK. The role will be working on plan to deliver advance civils work, interchange station works and be part of the project which will be the heart of the high-speed rail network in the West Midlands. It will be one of the most environmentally-friendly station project in the world. An experienced project Planner will have a background in Civil Engineering and infustracture and previous experience in programme schedule, experience of RC works, Rail and substructures as well as superstructure projects.

What will the role look like?

  • Provide leadership for the planning and coordination processes.
  • To implement and maintain the requirements of the Project Business Plan.
  • Ensure that all programmes are compliant with the Project requirements.
  • Ensure that the construction strategy and any recommended improvements are communicated.
  • Represent the project / business with all stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain and update Contract Programme and Programme to Build in accordance with the project requirements
  • Provide strategic programmes - tender, procurement, design, construction, short term.
  • Co -ordinate with internal customers - commercial, design, customer care and construction
  • Responsible for the delivery of planning and coordination processes.
  • To implement and maintain the requirements of the Project Business Plan.
  • Ensure that all programmes are compliant with the Project requirements.
  • Liaise with client and other stakeholders
  • Commercial advice / implications on production / programme issues
  • Able to give advice on production issues with understanding of the commercial issues and implications
  • Liaise with site team to check on progress, issues and review planned progress to ensure
  • Strategic Planning
  • Project / programme controls
  • Contract planning
  • Pre-contract planning and work control

  • What skills & experience are we looking for?
  • Professional Qualifications: HNC / Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar.
  • On site Project experience.
  • Good understanding of various forms of tender documents, contract documents and specifications along with understanding of risk and opportunity management.
  • Gained experience of developing relationships with client representatives.
  • Have a developing knowledge of strategic planning and project / programme management systems.
  • Planning and resourcing experience using Asta Powerproject.
  • Self motivation, resource management, staff development and coaching.
  • Primavera P6
  • Navisworks or 4D planning (Synchro)
  • MS Office applications

A senior project planner is responsible for developing, managing, monitoring the project programme and controls and is a key member of the team to deliver the scheme. The senior project planner also gives strategic and commercial advice on programme implications.
