Senior Quantity Surveyor

Our client is seeking two Senior Quantity Surveyors who are experienced in quickly adapting to new projects. One position is based in York for civil engineering projects, while the other covers utilities across Yorkshire and the Humber region. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, your primary responsibility will be overseeing the commercial aspects of the projects, ensuring accurate cost control and contract administration. Your expertise in quantity surveying and experience in either civil engineering or utilities will play a crucial role in delivering successful projects, meeting budget targets, and upholding the company's commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the commercial team, offering guidance and support to junior quantity surveyors.
  • Prepare precise cost estimates, bills of quantities, and tender documentation for civil engineering projects (or utilities in the Yorkshire and Humber region).
  • Negotiate and administer contract agreements, including handling variations and claims.
  • Monitor project progress, costs, and variations, delivering timely cost and value reports to the management team.
  • Implement effective change control processes, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors, efficiently managing costs and fostering positive working relationships.
  • Provide valuable insights and recommendations to optimize project profitability and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a significant focus on civil engineering projects (or utilities in the Yorkshire and Humber region).
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, including NEC and JCT.
  • Excellent understanding of civil engineering practices (or utilities in the Yorkshire and Humber region), methodologies, and relevant regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license.
