Kier Professional Services is looking to recruit a Senior/Principal Engineer.
Kier Professional Services (KPS) are an exclusive in-house resource, providing readily available expert advice to support understanding and resolution of technical project issues in temporary and permanent works. KPS are able to quickly mobilise resources to support project delivery and consistently deliver a dependable design service for buildability and safety.
We have a large team of experienced professionally qualified engineers, with a wide variety of technical knowledge that spans a variety of sectors. We are leaders in the use of BIM and use a variety of innovative software solutions to assist with feasibility, optioneering and buildability reviews of a project. KPS also provide surveying capabilities and dedicated material and geotechnical advice.
Job Purpose:
Contribute to and lead the delivery of a broad range of Civil & Structural and related services in both Temporary and Permanent Works throughout the Kier business; providing solutions which are safe and buildable (in both their temporary and permanent states), above all other considerations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Permanent Works design for buildings, highways, housing and infrastructure, as part of an integrated design and construct offering
- Temporary Works design and checking, above and below ground in all materials
- Tender and bid winning support including outline design schemes, feasibility studies, production and evaluation of concepts
- Delivery of alternative solutions and value engineering
- Design Management advice and co-ordination to support bid winning and project delivery, including acting as Lead Designer on projects requiring multidisciplinary teams or where Kier are required to take lead designer role
- Technical assessment and review of 3rd Party designs, ensuring compliance with the brief to meet client and Kier requirements
- Provision of a technical help desk, providing engineering expertise and technical advice
- Resolution of technical project, construction and design issues, incidents, defects and failures; incident investigation, examining causes of failure, rectification analysis, review, advice and redesign
- Identification of technical risks and solutions to facilitate scoping, pricing, designing and construction
- Leading development of Group-wide technical standards and design processes
- Site visits, surveys and inspections, reporting and advising on SHE issues
- Job Leader and Line Management responsibilities appropriate to the role.
- Encourage and assist in the development of staff
- Develop and review engineering methods and software, including design or assessment spreadsheets and/or calculation templates
- Incorporated or Chartered member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE, IStructE) or able to demonstrate the required capability to attain such a qualification retrospectively
- Five years relevant postgraduate experience
- Full driving licence
- Valid CSCS card
- Flexible approach to work activities
