We are looking to recruit a Structures Divisional Lead who will form a key part of the Kier Highways Design Solutions (KHDS) Senior Management Team to take responsibility for the growth, direction and management of structure's capability, this is currently circa 70 engineers strong and will lead the community of practice. You will set the strategy for the business in relation to growth and direction, ensure that projects developed are technically robust and solutions focused, in collaboration with your team and the wider Kier Highways construction teams. Kier Highways are a unique business with an internal design capability (Kier Highways Design Solutions) in the region of 300 engineers from key disciplines.

Location: Birmingham - remote working available, with travel to Kier office and site as required

Contract: Permanent, Fulltime.

Salary: £72.5k - £85k

Responsibilities

As a Structures Divisional Lead, you'll oversee project management, risk management and will be accountable for the financial and technical performance of the portfolio of structures design, assessment and maintenance projects that are within some of the most interesting projects in the UK.

Your day to day will include:
  • taking complete ownership of the structure division/community within the Kier Highways Design Solutions and be the primary point of call and provide technical advice
  • develop, grow and inspire technically strong and productive teams to meet workload from the Kier workstreams and external clients
  • holding regular team meetings (to include sub-consultants) in order to plan the immediate work, co-ordinate disciplines and identify/escalate any risks on delivery
  • perform the role of design project director on significant structures projects and also significantly contribute to tenders
  • liaising with delivery and commercial management teams as required to ensure buildability reviews are undertaken and projects navigate through to construction efficiently
  • represent KHDS to internal and external clients
Who are we looking for?

This role of Structures Divisional Lead is great for you if you are a:
  • Chartered Engineer with ICE or MIStructE
  • Proven project management of highway structures projects and delivery to programme and budget in a safe environment
  • Strong technical skills in a combination of bridge maintenance, strengthening and design
  • Strong commercial and programme risk management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills with a pro-active approach at all times
