The Opportunity:
At Explore Manufacturing we produce a variety of bespoke concrete products, many of which require bespoke solutions to lift, handle, store and transport.
This role is to provide technical support to reduce risk and ensure 'engineered safety' throughout the full manufactured product life cycle.
Leadership of engineering activities to ensure product/project delivery in accordance with business plans and objectives, complying with legislative and contractual obligations and consistent with LO'R Group processes.
What will the role look like?
PTS is an integral part of the Explore Manufacturing Design Centre, established to provide end to end leadership and best practice in pre-cast design and engineering, throughout the full design process.
The Technical Leader (TL) role is required on all PCSA/PCA engagements and Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DfMA) Projects. The individual will work closely with a broad range of stakeholders including the project design teams, RC detailing teams, manufacturing operations teams, contracts/project coordination teams and DE/technical support teams, in order to ensure best practice is observed across the full design and manufacturing process.
Reporting to the Head of PTS, the TL role is critical to ensuring successful outcomes for projects delivered through Laing O'Rourke's DfMA strategy. They will form an integral part of the project technical team, ensuring high quality, specialist technical advice is provided for the deployment
Respnsibilities:
- Working tender opportunities evaluate RIBA stage 2/3 information and to produce a PCC conversation feasibility study and assessment. Taking a balanced view on what solution is right for the project whilst optimising our operating model.
- Working as part of the project design team provide technical leadership of the precast design process in the design devolvement of RIBA stage 4 design. Activities include but are not limited to:
- Agree design principle and suitable components
- Develop connection details
- Establish element lifecycle and ensure all load cases are assessed in the design
- Establish element geometry, joint locations, sizes and details to support final coordination of stage 4 design
- Identify highly congested interfaces and ensure these are fully reviewed and de-risked
- Identify the requirements of the design supply chain, design scope and recommend design appointments
- Produce consultant appointment scope documents for external design services and briefing documents for internal design scope.
- Develop the precast concrete design programme and IRS requirements
- Technical design management of external design services
- Technical leadership for external sales
- Coaching/driving of design supply chain to ensure fit for manufacture and deliver best design that is 'product led' where possible.
