Surface Treatments Supervisor

Kier Highways is looking to recruit a Supervisor - Surface Treatment.
The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for the efficient management of site resources, labour teams and subcontractors, to ensure the safe delivery of a small project or a section of a larger project, and in accordance with the surface treatments programme. The Foreman must be able to manage the resources such that the works are efficiently delivered and work with the Site Manager to effectively manage risks and identify opportunity.

Additionally it will be the responsibility of the foreman to ensure all equipment is maintained at a serviceable level.

Responsibilities:
  • Managing Safety on site including giving inductions and effective Tool Box Talks, Daily Task Briefings and Point of Work assessments to Site Operatives.
  • Allocating duties to Site Operatives.
  • Supervising Site Operatives and site activities to ensure tasks carried out are within their levels of skill and expertise.
  • Organising and requisitioning Site Equipment/ Plant and Materials to ensure completion of works. Co-ordinating with Line Managers on managing work methods which are technically sound, safe, economically viable, feasible and consistent and advise them of any items which may impact / change the contract programme.
  • Maintain daily records of site activities and liaise with the Line Managers to produce information for progress reports. Monitor the attendance of Site Operatives and check the daily allocation sheets for accuracy and correct reporting of additional instructed work. Implement the requirements of work safety plans, method statements, risk assessments and other works procedures ensuring they comply with the relevant documentation.
  • Ensure all site operatives are wearing appropriate PPE at all times during site activities.
  • Ensure all site operatives are trained to use any plant and equipment and they are using it safely and for its correct purpose at all times.
  • Deal with the customer / public in a professional manner at all times
  • Ensure that potential problems are identified and resolved at an early stage and escalated where appropriate
  • Support a culture of safety awareness and safe working - ensuring that all accidents/near misses are reported
  • Effectively manage and oversee the day-to-day operational activity, working within client specification and providing a first class service to our customers
  • Carry out on the job training of team members where necessary

  • Key Skills and Competencies:
  • A good general education and have reasonable written and numerical skills
  • Computer literate
  • Full UK Drivers Licence
  • 5 years' experience working in the highway maintenance industry
  • General knowledge and experience in Surface treatments
  • 'People skills' experience in working with people and as part of a team
  • A good organiser, both of self and individuals with the ability to think in advance
  • Self-motivated
  • Team player
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Be flexible in both working hours and supporting the team
  • Willing, enthusiastic, patient and understanding with those they interact with
  • Diplomatic, patient and understanding with members of the public
  • Able to undertake their work activities in a safe manner in compliance with Kier health and safety management system and not compromising the health and safety of their colleagues, subcontractors, the client and members of the public.

  • Desirable Qualifications:
  • Sector Scheme 12d Qualifications (M1/2/6)
  • Sector Scheme 13 Qualifications (NVQ3)
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card - Supervisor - Gold,
  • First Aid at work certificate (3 day)
