An opportunity for a technical services specialist to take on responsibility for all the technical services functions including Quality Standards, Geology and Reserves, Laboratories, Engineering Services and Surveying with the leading quarry operator in the Middle East.

Stevin Rock is one of the largest crushed rock producers in the world with a current production capacity from three sites of over 80 million tonnes per year of limestone, dolomite and gabbro for the construction industry. The product range includes fine sand to coarse aggregate for asphalt, ready?mix plants, land reclamation, etc., armour rock for sea defence/breakwater marine projects as well as feedstock for the cement, steel, chemical, glass and mining industries. The Company is wholly owned by the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven Emirates of the United Arab Emirates, has over 3,500 employees and has operated and continuously grown for over 40 years.

The Technical Development Manager will be responsible for all Technical services functions including QS, Geology and reserves, laboratories, engineering services and surveying and IT.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified either in engineering or a science subject (post graduate preferred)
  • Detailed knowledge and technical expertise in all relevant standards and testing procedures as rock and aggregate products are produced to BS, EN and ISO standards.
  • Relevant and recent experience and direct exposure in the Quarrying, Civil or Concrete Industries are mandatory.
  • Experienced in coastal defence construction or large sized construction would be advantageous.
  • Commercial acumen/sensitivity and good communication skills are of high importance, as the position will involve direct exposure with customers and contractors.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Highly developed research and analytical skills
  • It is vital that applicants have a full UK/EU Driving License in order to fulfil all aspects of this role.

Responsibilities:

  • All the technical aspects across the company which includes Quality, Engineering, Geological services and Analytical.
  • Management of quality control and assurance, the production of quality plans and customer product support.
  • Surveying, engineering design and draughting, civil works and on-house trade's team.
  • Geotechnical, quarry development and design, exploration and reserves management.
  • All the laboratory and materials testing functions.
  • Quarry development, reserves management, blast optimisation and restoration planning.
  • Exploration for new resources and raw materials due diligence.
  • Appraising new technologies and supporting the IT team technically with regard to technology and infrastructure.
  • Continuous improvement of technical skills across the businesses.
  • Developing and expanding analytical capability to enable reserves to be optimised.
  • Maintain the responsibility for ongoing improvement process in QA/QC which involves close communication with relevant operations teams regarding raw material quality based on test results / visual observations, feedback received from clients and to suggest any necessary changes to improve the quality of the final product.
  • The control, development and enforcement of Quality Assurance within the Company.
  • Able to act as the official Company representative responsible for all material specification and quality related issues between the clients and their appointed representatives and the Company.

  • Maintain the responsibility for ongoing improvement process in QA/QC which involves close communication with relevant operations teams regarding raw material quality based on test results / visual observations, feedback received from clients and to suggest any necessary changes to improve the quality of the final product.
  • Overseeing the day to day quality control of all materials produced based on relevant quality plans and standards.
  • Ensuring only products compliant with specification are shipped to clients.
  • Supervising and managing the work of QA Foremen, Inspectors and Technicians.
