Breedon Group plc is the largest independent construction materials group in the UK. They operate the country's largest cement plant, two cement import terminals, around 60 quarries, 26 asphalt plants, 200 ready-mixed concrete & mortar plants and three concrete block plants, employing around 2,300 people nationwide.
The Group is currently seeking a Technical Manager based at Leeds, in the north area of Breedon Southern business.
You will manage:
- The technical team for all matters including Health and Safety
- Conformity, factory production control and the quality systems for all products (rmx, mortar, screed, aggregates)
- The optimisation of materials for all products
- The interpretation of incoming specifications
- Internal and external audits
- Complaints
- Quality reports
Reporting to the Technical Director, you will:
- Manage day to day activities for all technical staff ensuring that health and safety, compliance and quality standards are achieved and maintained
- Deliver training where required including toolbox talks
- Identify any NCR's and programme corrective and preventative action plans
- Manage the FPC control systems for all products and take appropriate action to maintain control
- Ensure that test rates for all products are achieved
- Manage the internal and external audits programme, taking appropriate action for the report outputs in a timely manner
- Reviewing the material selection to maintain optimisation of designs
- Evaluate specifications and offer recommendations for alternative products to commercial staff where appropriate
- Support commercial staff in resolving customer complaints, technical queries and any required site visits
- Report and discuss internal material/product issues with the appropriate manager with a view to obtaining a satisfactory resolution
- Reporting FPC issues with solutions and recommendations
- Development of new products and concepts
- Complete reports as required by the Technical Director
- Manage trial mixes for concrete and mortar
It is essential that you have experience in a supervisory capacity for ready-mix concrete, which will include the use of quality management and FPC systems. You must also be computer literate, with a good understanding of MS Office. It is also essential that you have excellent communication skills with the ability to put forward strong, rational arguments, and are able to demonstrate a rational decision-making process whilst under pressure. It would be advantageous if you have experience of working with concrete, asphalt, mortar and aggregates.
It is desirable for you to possess a degree in appropriate materials science or Advanced Concrete Technology or, as a minimum, CGLI Concrete Technology.
