The successful candidate will be part of a team working toward a step change in highways technology maintenance on Kier's contract extension in area 9. Breaking with tradition, we will be implementing a proactive, analytical approach, the technology team leader(s) will play an important part in implementing this change. They will need to be able to challenge the status quo, make tough decisions and provide consistent strong leadership.
The technology team leader will take responsibility for ensuring health and safety and compliance is paramount for the shifts they lead. The technology team leader will work collaboratively with our client, Highways England and with our supply chain partners to deliver a highly effective and proactive technology maintenance service that delivers for Highways England's customers. The levels of performance we are striving for go beyond anything previously delivered.
Collaborating closely with the technology operation managers and our performance team the technology team leader will ensure faults are handled in an enthusiastic, intelligent manner and underlying root causes are dealt with, reducing the requirement for wasteful repeat visits.
The technology team leader will have responsibility for leading a team on technology engineers over a shift. They will manage the deployment of their team to enable delivery of the level of service we aspire to. They will be responsible for safeguarding the welfare and health and safety of themselves and their team. They will take an active role in ensuring their own skills and knowledge are up to date and fit for purpose.
The technology team leader is both a leadership and a practical role. The team leader will be expected to assist their team in completing faults/ maintenance during their shift. They will utilise and direct their experience and knowledge toward the most challenging issues that occur on the shift. They will use their knowledge and experience to develop more junior members of the engineering pool.
Innovation is a key part of the Kier service offering. The technology team leader will have the opportunity to work closely with our innovation team to help trial and deploy innovative techniques and services to not only improve health and safety but also meet the demands of the enhanced technology maintenance service
Typical Skills/Experience as follows:
- Experience in leading, motivating, managing and developing a small team of site-based engineering staff.
- Significant experience working as a highways technology maintenance engineer
- Understanding of Highways England technology systems including TPMS, COBS and its subsystems, display equipment, CCTV, digital storage devices and motorway communications.
- Knowledge and application of current technologies, standards and best practice relating to Highways England`s Motorway and trunk road communications systems.
- Takes ownership of tasks and sees them through to completion.
- Ability to influence others.
- Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
- Able to work independently without close supervision.
- Forward thinking.
- Desire to work collaboratively to find the root cause of issues and deliver a proactive maintenance approach.
- Desire to identify innovative technologies and solutions.
- Ability to learn and keep up to date with changes in highways technology standards and required statutory legislation.
- Computer literate and fully conversant with MS Office suite.
- Vocational qualification in technology related discipline to satisfy sector scheme requirements.
- HERS Sector 8 training relevant to role.
- HERS Qualified Supervisor (QS) qualification (desirable)
