Title: Temporary Works Manager
Location: Godstone, Kent
Kier are looking for a Temporary Works Manager to manage and coordinate the provision of safe, practical and economical temporary works designs to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with Kier Temporary Works Standard and associated procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with the implementation teams develop the temporary works design brief and issue to temporary works designer for action;
- Monitor, track and manage design progress;
- Ensure timely issue of design to meet with programme requirements;
- Manage temporary works design budget;
- Ensure that design work undertaken is carried out in accordance with company procedures and that a high level of professionalism is maintained;
- Ensure appropriate design checks are carried out;
- Provide advice and guidance on temporary works design and operational issues;
- Ensure design risks are considered and suitable design risk assessments for any residual risks are prepared and made available to the implementation teams;
- Undertake site visits and surveys;
- Assist with the development of graduate and junior Engineers. Manage the temporary works coordinators and temporary works supervisors;
- Ensure that feedback on design work is collated and saved in accordance with procedure;
- Liaise with other departments and project teams within the company with regards to design requirements;
- Provide a temporary works advisory service giving guidance through the entire construction process;
- Provide advice on temporary works procedures and the requirements of a design brief in order to develop best practice among the temporary works coordinators;
- Establish and promote best practice in temporary works with regards to health, safety and environmental matters;
- Promote the in-house design team in order to establish and maintain future work;
- Represent the temporary works design department when necessary at internal and external meetings;
- Administration and monitoring of Change Controls;
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant technical consultants and suppliers, managing their input in the design, development, pricing and delivery of technical solutions on site and tenders;
- Liaison with clients/site staff/subcontractors and proprietary suppliers and the delivery of schemes to deliver schemes to time and to budget;
- Maintain responsibility for the storage, filing and archiving of documents relevant to your design tasks.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Degree / HND / HNC - (Civil / Structural Engineering);
- CSCS Card;
- Professionally qualified or working towards IEng / CEng;
- Previous experience of designing or managing temporary works for the construction industry;
- Knowledge of the design and checking process relating to Category 1, 2 and 3 design checks in accordance with BS5975;
- Knowledge of the CDM Regulations, Health and Safety Regulations and Approved Codes of Practice applicable to temporary works;
- Literacy, numeracy and analytical skills (production of reports, specifications, technical appraisals, general correspondence);
- A knowledge of permanent works design and construction methods (desirable)
- Experience of some, but not all, of the following is required.
- Managing the design and/or checking of: Formwork, Falsework, Scaffolding, Needling, Propping, Site hoardings, Haul roads, crawler carne mats, Mobile crane outrigger foundations, Working platforms for piling rigs and other forms of tracked plant, Excavation support and slope stability (timber and proprietary equipment), Lifting / Jacking / Sliding.
