We are currently seeking a Tester in Charge (Rail)- Signalling for our Rail Operations hub in Sydney.

Rail Operations is an internal business unit within Laing O'Rourke, specialising in the sole delivery of all aspects of Rail, working with a team of technical experts to deliver a high portfolio of work across New South Wales.

Key responsibilities

  • Tracking costs and managing subcontractors will be a key element to the role.
  • Lead the planning and control of all testing requirements, resources, and test equipment.
  • Maintain daily logbook of testing activity
  • Prepare strategies for future commissioning works, incorporating resources, possession, training, and technical requirements.
  • Interface with all other disciplines on the project to ensure the works included within any possession can be accommodated. This shall include but not be limited to civils, track, HV & LV, OHW and buildings
  • Liaise with the Signalling Design team to review / comment on the produced and issued signalling design
  • Liaise with the Signalling Construction team to review / comment on the installation for adequacy as required prior to handover to test
  • Undertake inspections of the equipment and installation to ensure compliance of the construction work is to specification.
  • Direct, control and ensure that all the inspection and testing plans, procedures, activities and tasks required by the specifications are competently and correctly completed and recorded.
  • Sign off the safety assurance of completed works and certify that the systems and equipment have been properly installed using approved design & effective quality system processes and have undergone and passed all tests and inspections necessary to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Ensure Independence between constructors and testers & manage / control access to equipment that has been tested, ensuring that the integrity of the installation is maintained.

About you

  • Railway signalling site testing in charge experience mandatory.
  • Exposure to managing teams for delivery phase of Testing and Commissioning
  • Preparation of Testing and Commissioning documents - strategy, methodology, work package, procedures, reports, SWMS, JSEAs, etc.
  • Strategic Planning
  • Demonstrated experience in either Tester in Charge Authorisation, Signal Engineer Field, IRSE License 1.3.190 Tester in Charge
  • IRSE License with relevant Tester in Charge competencies
  • Sydney Trains and/ or ARTC relevant Statement of Competency- Signalling Engineer/ Tester in Charge/ Commissioning Engineer required
  • Lead by example in health and safety and attitude
  • Member or Fellow in IRSE (Institute of Railway Signal Engineers)
