Are you an environmental consultant with a strong technical background in wetlands and soils? Do you thrive in diverse, fast-paced environments where your expertise directly contributes to responsible resource development?

We are looking for a Wetlands and Soils Specialist to join a growing consultancy known for delivering impactful environmental solutions across international mining and infrastructure projects. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team working across Africa, Europe, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently plan and execute field surveys for wetland and soil studies, nationally and internationally.
  • Identify and delineate wetlands using internationally recognised methodologies (e.g. US Army Corps of Engineers Manual, South African DWAF 2005 procedure).
  • Classify soils using global systems such as the South African 2018 or FAO 2014 soil classification frameworks.
  • Conduct wetland and soil impact assessments, sensitivity analyses, land use and capability assessments, and agricultural compliance studies.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports for clients and regulatory authorities.
  • Apply mapping and analytical tools including GIS, GPS, aerial photography, and sonar imaging.
  • Engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams on project planning and delivery.

Required Qualifications & Background:

  • BSc in Environmental Sciences, Soil Science, or a related discipline (Honours or MSc preferred).
  • Solid understanding of wetland and soil classification techniques, with a strong fieldwork orientation.
  • Registration as a Professional Scientist (or working toward it) preferred.
  • Experience in the mining or resources sector and working on international or cross-border projects is advantageous.

Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to wetland health assessment tools (e.g. WET-Health), hydropedology, and vegetation surveys.
  • Familiarity with wetland offsetting, rehabilitation, and invasive species management.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, permitting, and global best practices.
