Location: This role will cover the Europe Hub and would ideally be based near our Sale (Manchester), CEMC (Worksop) or Dartford offices.

We are seeking a Whole Life Carbon Manager (Work Winning) to join our sustainability function and work alongside the Whole-Life Carbon Reduction and Transformation Lead. In this position, you will be embedded within the work-winning team and report to the Sustainability Communications Lead.

If you have a technical background, preferably in work-winning, and want to build your expertise around Carbon, we would be thrilled to speak with you.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate all bids/questions as they arrive and support the development of carbon-related responses
  • Identify client requirements, aspirations and future desires that could be successfully delivered by our offering, sharing these insights with wider team for inclusion in their plans (Technical, Procurement, Technology & Innovation)
  • Learn and use One Click LCA software, or other relevant carbon measurement tools, as necessary to interrogate carbon data, provide estimates to support optioneering and decision-making and conform with governance processes
  • Develop exemplar responses with appropriate evidence by following our work winning processes from storyboard through bronze, silver and gold review prior to submission.
  • Support internal governance process working with bid teams to prepare relevant documentation and present/support at settlement meetings.
  • Proactively recommend improvements through evaluation of submissions and client feedback and improve processes where appropriate
  • Coordinate activities with all identified relevant stakeholders involved in pre-bidding, tendering and post-tendering, understanding the complementary nature of their activities
  • Capture, develop and share evidence of exemplar sustainability performance from across the group for inclusion within future bids
  • Upskill and mentor the wider technical and sustainability teams in bid writing, evidence statements, case studies and carbon concepts/terminology
  • Contribute to the wider agenda of the function and organisational sustainability strategy, supporting the head of sustainability, social value and environmental leaders as required

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Environmental, Quantity Surveying, Geography, or Marketing)
  • Good understanding of work-winning procedures and how to develop a high-quality bid submission
  • An outstanding writing style that is clear and concise
  • Excellent coordination skills and ability to manage stakeholders and work as part of a team
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to thrive in pressurised situations, including ability to work on multiple projects and programmes and achieve tight deadlines
  • Experience in construction of the built environment (both the public and private sectors)
  • Understanding of carbon concepts, terminology and guidance as applied to construction and corporations, for instance Greenhouse Gas Protocol, RICS whole-life carbon assessment methodology, PAS2080.
  • Understanding of broad sustainability concepts from environmental compliance, biodiversity and social value.
