WLC Reduction and Tansformation Lead
Location: This role will cover the Europe Hub
Working Patterns: Laing O'Rourke has a hybrid working model which is centred around managing energy and promoting sustainable performance in role. this role will require travel and overnight stays- enabling you to immerse yourself in our people and the great work they do across our projects. The frequency will be determined by workload and requirements.
The role of Whole-Life Carbon Reduction & Transformation Lead is vital in realising our mission and if we are to be 'first and fast' to capitalise on the opportunity to decarbonise the built environment we need to strengthen the capacity and capabilities within the technical team to drive forward whole life decarbonisation [embodied, operational and maintenance emissions].
The new position will be embedded within the wider sustainability function, in the decarbonisation team, working directly for the Technical Leader - Carbon Solutions alongside Whole-Life Carbon Measurement Architect. By driving development and implementation of our reduction roadmap, this role is vital in decarbonising our business and building in the processes that will underpin our transition to Net Zero Carbon.
It is especially important that this position role model exemplary behaviours demonstrating absolute alignment with our strategic business direction and expectations including building their own and our wider function capacity and wellness; exhibiting the ability to actively collaborate and 'join the dots' between the technical function, the sustainability team and the wider business.
Key Deliverables and Accountabilities
- Work with the Technical Leader for Carbon Solutions to develop a decarbonisation roadmap for all project types and stages and across all disciplines, collaborating with discipline Solutions Leaders and T&I team; update roadmap annually
- Engage regularly with T&I team to identify priority focus areas as per the roadmap, assist in product development and facilitate project & factory deployment of new processes and prototypes
- Engage with Sustainability Procurement Lead and supply-chain to identify and develop decarbonisation solutions & opportunities in line with the roadmap
- Work with the Technical Solutions team, Project Technical Leaders and environmental sustainability work winning team to holistically consider and drive decarbonisation solutions in to work winning activities, contributing tender responses as necessary
- In collaboration with the Solutions team, support Project Technical Leaders in deployment of decarbonisation solutions onto projects, both pre-construction and in delivery
- Consult and build consensus for transformation, engaging stakeholders, gaining (and recording) their input and buy-in at both operational and leadership levels
- Map carbon transformation requirements onto existing processes and roles, identifying opportunities and gaps aiming for efficiency and simplicity
- Formulate a Responsibility Matrix (RACI) for project teams to identify reduction and tracking responsibilities across the project lifecycle and map indicative additional resource requirements at project level
- Establish procedures, processes, and controls to move forward with consistency (and alignment with the main sustainability accreditation schemes) and set the expectations / benchmark for all projects to follow including learning loops
- Work cross functionally to contribute to the development of new products and/or technical solutions
- Identify and share best practice, producing technical guidance documents, LMRs and staff training material as required
- Coordinate internal knowledge groups on carbon reduction strategies as well as contribute to staff training process
- Contribute to engagement with clients and other industry stakeholders to understand their reduction ambitions, drivers and requirements, continuously feeding them into our plans
- Suggest areas/ideas for change throughout the whole project value chain, for instance requirements for input into the design partner framework or areas for supply chain engagement
