The successful Senior Urban Designer will work on high-profile visioning and master planning projects, including urban extensions, large-scale new neighbourhoods, and garden villages across the UK. You will lead projects through stages of vision development and master planning to the preparation of design codes, regulatory plans, and proving layouts. This role is an opportunity to be part of a highly collaborative and creative team, where communication and team effort are highly valued.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead on the design and development of high-profile projects, including visioning, masterplanning, and the preparation of design codes and regulatory plans
  • Manage project teams and build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and local communities
  • Produce layouts, parameter plans, and land budget plans
  • Write reports for Design and Access Statements (DAS) and Design Codes
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of Urban Designers, Architects, and support staff
  • Represent the practice in client meetings, workshops, and public consultations
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the development of the studio's design ethos.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in Urban Design is essential
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualified experience within a design practice, specifically on large-scale urban design and masterplanning projects in the UK
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, CAD, and hand-drawing
  • Experience producing layouts, parameter plans, and land budget plans
  • Evidence of report writing for Design and Access Statements (DAS) and Design Codes (Design Code experience is beneficial but not essential)
  • Experience in residential-led, mixed-use projects and large-scale master plans
  • Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage project teams and collaborate effectively with clients and consultants
  • An architectural background is advantageous but not mandatory.
