Kier Design and Business Services are looking for someone to work and assist in the leadership of a design team producing high quality design work, comprehensive and co-ordinated detailed drawings and specifications which will enable projects to be completed within agreed cost and budget parameters, and running projects on site.


Assisting and directing members of the team as required with project work at all stages of design and construction.


The role requires excellent financial, technical and time management within a discipline team to deliver technical excellence in design. Experience of design, procurement, project management, contract administration and site supervision across a range of projects is desirable as is a willingness to mentor and coach fellow team members.


Experience of managing design teams is essential and the candidate will need to demonstrate experience in REVIT and working to Level 2 BIM and be able to promote Kier and develop the business nationally. Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary organisation is desirable but not essential


Key responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and advise on environmental, legal and regulatory issues.
  • Responsibility for the commercial performance of projects under your control.
  • Prepare detailed plans and resource schedules both in the short and medium term to match workload forecasts and resource allocation.
  • Contribute to commercial bids, feasibility studies and planning applications and other regulatory issues and applications.
  • Be able to lead on substantial and complex projects and manage and co-ordinate others to ensure the effective delivery of work programmes.
  • Participating in the detailed design process and the production and co-ordination of design information including preparing and presenting concept and detailed drawings.
  • Ensure that duties are carried out in accordance with all relevant policies, legislation, company procedures and Quality Assurance procedures including Health and Safety.
  • Administer a range of contracts including as a minimum the JCT and NEC suites
  • Undertake other appropriate duties commensurate with the role as required by the business.
  • Ability to work flexibly to support the needs of the team, nationally.
  • Lead and support local and national bids as appropriate.
  • Knowledge/ Experience:
  • Excellent design capabilities
  • Excellent technical and detailing skills.
  • Experience of team management
  • Knowledge of all current regulations, relevant procurement methods
  • Experience of Contract Administration / Site Supervision / Project Management and PD regulations.
  • Up to date with developments within the design/construction industry
  • Demonstrable experience to a high level of BIM using REVIT to Level 2 minimum.
  • Able to demonstrate and illustrate knowledge and experience across all sectors of the RIBA Plan of Work 2013
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Effective in growing and maintaining positive client relationships
  • Negotiation skills
  • Ability to work to programme and agreed deadlines
  • Ability to effectively resource plan and commercially manage projects and programmes of work.
  • Use of REVIT and BIM level 2 and all relevant IT and CAD software packages also including Autocad, Sketchup, Adobe Design Suite, Word, Excel.

  • Salary: circa £40,000 dependent on experience
