Title: Technical Manager/Head of Design

Introduction:
Kier Construction Southern is looking for an experienced Technical Manager to take the lead on all design and MEP activities for the Southampton business. Reporting into the Operations Director, you will manage the design management resources (people and finance) and support the generation of profitable tenders for authorisation and submission. This will maximise the order pipeline and its conversion into market share, revenue and operating profit.
Responsibilities:
Support the development and implementation of the design management budget (cost) for the business unit
Lead, manage and motivate the business unit's design managers and staff and external consultants to establish their full commercial contribution to the organisation
Ensure the business unit design management staff members have the required capacity, capability and competency
Support the winning of contracts while minimising risk and maximising gross profit
Support the process of assessing, preparing (including post-tender activities), validating, adjudication and final submission of tenders on time and to the required quality
To manage the process of designing solutions in order to meet or exceed customers' requirements
To work out and plan the appointment, management and coordination of design consultants and (BIM) resources
To spot short-term and medium-term market and design solution trends and innovations and support the development and implementation of functional strategy with the Design Management Leadership Team (DMLT)
To provide regular, accurate, consolidated reports and forecasts for the business unit and Kier Group
Support and assist the teams with delivery of works on site and completion.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
MCIOB or MICE qualified (or similar)
Demonstrate a track record and ability to lead a sizeable Design Management team
Excellent communication and diplomacy skills.
Knowledge or experience in a specialist contracting industry
Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
